Back on Saturday 11th August numerous members gathered together for our annual Summer, Show & Shine event which this year took place at Warwick Castle in Warwickshire. Although we had visited the castle a few times before for GROWLER events we thought having the location more centrally located and having lots to see and do throughout the day would be a more attractive appeal for everyone. Numbers however were slightly down unfortunately but the superb atmosphere itself made it very special event indeed.

An eventual turn out of 54 cars, both XKs and F-Types, all looked superb amongst the castle beautiful surroundings. Lined up in each of their particular models (eg: X100s, X150s and F-Types) the effort many of you had put in was tremendous.

The event started much earlier this year due to timing constraints that Warwick Castle had put upon the event, despite this the cars all came on time and like a regimented unit all lined up gracefully down the lower field with the beautiful orangery as a photographic backdrop.

Once parked up members then either went off looking at the many attractions the castle had to offer or sat in groups/individually around

their cars enjoying the blazing sunshine. Later in the afternoon we had our usual trophy presentation which this year was very kindly sponsored by Jim Mclean of Compressortech, a firm based in Warwick who were only too pleased to help out. Jim himself undertook the difficult task of judging each car and at just after 2:30pm the winners were rightfully announced. They were…

Best X100 – Dave Hooper

Best X150 – Gareth Opie

Best F-Type – Paul Burns

Best Modified – Derek Hill

Best of Show – Paul Burns

Many of you who attended last year will also remember we now have a humerous “Can’t be Arsed” award, better known to some as the CBA Award, and this year the award was given to member Terry Farrell. It’s great to see how everyone takes this in the humerous way it is meant and that no one takes any offence at all. Well done Terry ! That’s exactly what the club is all about.

A big congratulations goes to all the winners who then drove their cars to the top of the field to have their much deserved winning photographs taken.

Karen and I would particularly like to take this opportunity to thank all those who took time out throughout the day to come over and talk to us personally at the club gazebo offering their kind remarks and total support as to the future of the club and also the future of this particular event, it really is appreciated. We would also like to say thank you to the many of you who kindly bought items from our club merchandise stall, we didn’t do bad at all.
