Merlin

Evans Halshaw, part of the Pendragon Group, commissioned specialists Racing Green to custom-build a limited-edition Jaguar XKR.

Jaguar Heritage was given exclusive access to the first car as it came out of Racing Green ahead of the official launch at Duxford back on July 10 2004. Just five examples of the car will be built; finished in metallic Anthracite with charcoal Recaro seats and upholstery, the XKR has its own matt brushed aluminium internal fittings, along with ‘XKR Merlin’ kick strips. Externally, the headlamps are zenon in a matt black housing and the cars carry a small Merlin badge with 1942-style RAF roundel on each side. The cars are part of the group’s support for the ‘Merlins Over Malta’ campaign. Evans Halshaw will make a substantial donation to the fund for each XKR Merlin that is sold.

Everyone can help support this venture. Support the cause and win a Jaguar. Evans Halshaw has joined forces with the Imperial War Museum at Duxford in Cambridge, to take an airworthy example each of the Spitfire and Hurricane to Malta in 2005. These two fighter types were vital to the defence of that island during World War Two.

Vintage aircraft restoration specialists Vintage Fabrics have been assisting in the restoration of the Hurricane and Spitfire that are on display at the Malta Aviation Museum. Clive and Linda Denney of Vintage Fabrics have made a number of trips to Malta and proposed the idea to take a flying Spitfire and Hurricane back to the fly over the islands, scene of their epic defence in 1942/43. The aim is to take back examples of the 'Defenders of the Islands', the 'Maltese Falcons', so they can again fly over the islands they once fought to save.

The Merlins Over Malta commitment is that the team’s time is given on a voluntary basis. If the project does not go ahead, the funds generated will go to the Malta Aviation Museum Hangar Appeal.
